Don Lapre Found Dead In Jail Cell Just Days Before Fraud Trial To Begin

The death of Don Lapre is being investigated after he was discovered dead in his jail cell in Florence, Arizona, on Sunday. Suicide is suspected, as he has tried to commit suicide at least once before. Lapre was due to attend his trial for fraud this week. Don Lapre, who was 47, dropped out of high school, and became involved in multilevel marketing. In the early to mid 1990s he ran infomercials, and in 1992 began broadcasting “The Making Money Show with Don Lapre”. His company sold products such as “The Greatest Vitamin in the World” as well as the “Making Money Package”, but his business plans were found not to work for many people, and there were many complaints. Despite Shaky Sales, Hybrids Here To Stay

Toyota is expanding its hybrid Prius line to include both bigger and smaller models.  The new Prius V was designed for greater storage space in its larger rear hatch, and the soon-to-arrive Prius C will be a smaller version for city drivers.  There is a trend in the hybrid market towards providing more options for potential customers.  For instance, in 2009 there were 17 hybrid models on the market, and at the start of 2011 there were 30. Marketing Guidance For Portfolio Managers Published By Canadian Securities Administrators

Staff Notice 31-325 was published on Tuesday by the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) with its aim to provide guidance for the preparation as well as the review and the use of marketing materials by portfolio managers. Mobile Advertising To Grow To $4 Billion By 2015

According to the media consultant/research company BIA/Kelsey, the forecast is for the amount of money spent on mobile advertising in the United States to increase fourfold by the year 2015. Mobile advertising is the ability to send text ads, or image ads, video ads or even audio ads to a user’s mobile phone. During 2010 the U.S. mobile advertising was $790 million, with 51 per cent of that, or $404 million being for local mobile marketing, but it is expected to reach $4 billion for mobile advertising by 2015, with $2.8 billion being for the local mobile advertising. Guardian Project And NBC Reach Marketing Agreement

A deal has been struck with NBC Universal and the Guardian Project which is a group of 30 comic-book hockey-theme superheroes, to promote a marketing and equity deal. Trump’s Site Loses Favor With Groupon

On Thursday Groupon, the website that offers its customers daily deals, announced that it would stop advertising on the web site of “The Apprentice”, the television show run by Donald Trump. The company said that it was because it does not want to associate itself with any political disputes. It also will not advertise on guns or abortion sites, because it does not want to upset any of its valued customers. Toys R Us Selling Apple iPad 2 In Some Stores

Over the weekend in the United States, some of the toy retail stores Toys R Us started to sell Apple’s iPad 2. Not all of the Toys R Us locations are involved with this, and it is available in only 30 or so states at present, in select stores which are listed on the Toys R Us company’s web page. Green Marketing Confusing To Many Study Shows

A study by the strategy and communications agency Cone revealed that many Americans are believing that some products are actually far better for the environment than they actually are. The 2011 Cone Green Gap Trend Tracker reports that some 97 per cent of Americans in 2011 said they new what the phrases “environmentally friendly” and “green” mean, compared to 90 per cent in 2008, but their understanding is not always correct. According to Cone, 41 per cent of Americans believe that environmentally friendly products  have a positive impact on the environment, compared to 29 per cent whose understanding is more accurate when they state that such products have less of an environmental impact than previous version of the products. On Thursday, Netx which is an affiliate and search marketing agency, announced that the jewelry retailer Ice.com has selected their company to handle and drive both their existing affiliate and search marketing programs and to further promote their online business. Despite a sales gain of 7.5 per cent in 2010, Red Bull New Zealand announced that their net profit fell from $10.71m to $888,771 in 2010 because of increased marketing and administration costs. It has been affected by the euro-kiwi exchange rates, because of their Austrian parentage and the fluctuations in rates affect the earnings.
