Clifford Olson, serial killer is dead, Corrections Service Canada Announced Friday, to the relief of many.

Correction Services Canada made the announcement that many have been waiting to hear for a long time, that Canada’s serial killer Clifford Olson is dead. The relatives of Olson’s victims are now relieved that he is dead, Olson dying on Friday of natural causes, terminal cancer, at the age of 71. At the time of his death, he was a patient in the Health Care Centre of the Archambault Institution in Ste-Anne-des-Plaines, Que.

Clifford Olson made the news in 1982 when he pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting and killing 11 children, both boys and girls between the ages of 9 and 17 in British Columbia, Canada between November 1980 and July 1981. He was sentenced to life in prison, but continued to torture the relatives of his victims in any way he could.

Olson managed to get the authorities to pay his wife $100,000 by leading them to where he had left the bodies of his victims, a move which caused a great deal of consternation and controversy in the B.C. justice system

In fact Olson wrote to the relatives of at least one victim to describe to them how he had killed their son. He also applied for early release in 1997, knowing that it would not be granted, but just so that his name would be back in the headlines. In 2006 after he had been in jail for 25 years, he appeared before the National Parole Board again, but his application for early release was again declined.

Correction Services Canada made phone calls to the relatives of Olson’s victims, to let them know that he was dead before the announcement was made public. Many relatives expressed relief that this murderer no longer has any hold over them.
