The FBI arrested Boeing workers at Ridley Park, Pa, for allegedlt distributing and using prescription drugs.

It was announced by the FBI at a news conference on Thursday that they have made 37 arrests in connection with prescription drugs being distributed and used by some workers at the Boeing military aircraft plant at Ridley Park outside Philadelphia in Pennsylvania.

Of those arrested on Thursday morning all but one are or were at one time Boeing employees. The Ridley Park plant employs over 5,000 workers, and the majority of those arrested were connected to the production area of this plant. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Philapelphia, 23 people were charged with the illegal distribution of prescription drugs. These drugs included Oxycontin and Actiq used to kill pain, as well as Xanax which is an anti-anxiety drug.

The remainder of those arrested were charged with the misdemeanor of the attempted possession of drugs.

Investigations first began back in 2006, when apparently some concerned Boeing employees suspected drug activity at work, and reported this to the ethics line which is in place at Boeing. From there the Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, and the Drug Enforcement Administration, DEA, began their investigations, even going undercover. Boeing does have drug testing programs set up, but it is not known how these programs are conducted.

Steps were taken by Boeing to protect the quality of work produced during the investigations. The plant builds aircraft which includes the manufacture of the V-22 Osprey and the H-47 Chinook helicopter, and it is not believed that there has been an issue with the quality of products produced.
