the Guardian Project and NBC agree on marketing deal

A deal has been struck with NBC Universal and the Guardian Project which is a group of 30 comic-book hockey-theme superheroes, to promote a marketing and equity deal. Each of the 30 National Hockey League teams has its own superhero and is a project launched by Stan Lee, and owned by Guardian Media Entertainment (GME) which is a company which was formed with the NHL Enterprises and POW! Entertainment of which Lee is the leader.

The NBC has recently extended its broadcasting deal with the NHL for airing NHL games on both NBC and Versus the cable network. These two companies are seeing these hero characters as a way to connect with younger audiences, and the NHL has been selling clothing and other merchandise starring the comic characters already this year.

The chief operating officer of GME Mark Terry said that “Since the inception of GME, our goal has been to partner with a major media company that has broadly distributed consumer platforms to exponentially increase the awareness and scope of The Guardian Project.”

There are suggestions that although this is a marketing deal right now, NBC could also be involved in developing comic books, games, films and perhaps a tv series at some stage in the future
