Although the authorities are working to determine the cause of death for former Warrant singer Jani Lane, no reason has yet been given for his death which happened on Thursday when he was found alone in a Comfort Inn motel in Woodland Hills, California. apparently the singer owned a home in South Bay which is about 30 miles away.

According to police, alcohol and prescription drugs were found in the room with Lane, and hi sister has said that Lane has been battling alcoholism for some time now and was a heavy drinker.

The family of Lane will hold a private memorial service on Sunday, and then on the 24th August at a destination in Hollywood as yet to be decided, there will be a public memorial with performances by metal bands such as Great White and L. A. Guns.

Lane was born as John Kennedy Oswald in 1964, and was an American recording artist, as well as the lead vocalist and main songwriter for the glam metal band Warrant. He performed the vocals for numerous tribute CDs in the early 2000s and he released his first solo “Back Down To One” in 2003 in Europe and later in 2006 in the United States. Other hits were “Cherry Pie,” “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” and “Heaven.”

Obi Steinman his friend and manager for many years said that “He was one of the great rock-and-roll frontmen and singers of all time. His music helped shape the ’80s.”

The current members of Warrant paid their tribute on Friday night in North Dakota where they said “We never thought that when the song ‘Heaven’ was written we would be playing it someday in the memory of Jani’s untimely death,” guitarist Erik said. “This is a very sad day for rock and roll.”
