A man from Ashland, Massachusetts was arrested and charged on Wednesday, according to the U.S. Department of Justice, with planning attacks on the Pentagon and the U.S. Capitol.

Rezwan Ferdaus, is 26 years old, and is a United States citizen who has reportedly been making plans to attack U.S. buildings using remote controlled aircraft which are large enough to contain C-4, or Composition C4 explosives. This is a common type of plastic explosive. There are other charges against him for attempting to provide resources and material to a foreign terrorist organization which has been named as al Qaeda. This was done so that attacks could be made on United States soldiers who are stationed overseas.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, has been monitoring the activity of Ferdaus for some time as he has been collecting together his supplies and information for these attacks. Undercover agents have been working along side Ferdaus, and there has never been any threat to the public’s safety.

Ferdaus had already purchased the remote controlled plane he intended to use in the attacks, and had it stored in Framingham, Mass where he had rented storage under a false name.

There has been a great deal of cooperation from many different law enforcement agencies involved in this case. If Ferdaus is convicted of the charges laid against him, he could be sentenced to more than twenty years in prison. It is not yet known how Ferdaus will plead.
