Mobile Advertising To Grow To $4 Billion By 2015

Mobile marketing is growing fast, with ad spend expected to be $4 million by 2015 in the U.S.

According to the media consultant/research company BIA/Kelsey, the forecast is for the amount of money spent on mobile advertising in the United States to increase fourfold by the year 2015. Mobile advertising is the ability to send text ads, or image ads, video ads or even audio ads to a user’s mobile phone.

During 2010 the U.S. mobile advertising was $790 million, with 51 per cent of that, or $404 million being for local mobile marketing, but it is expected to reach $4 billion for mobile advertising by 2015, with $2.8 billion being for the local mobile advertising.

This gain is expected to come from large businesses initially and then the small and medium business who will try to gain from mobile marketing efforts. It is expected that these ads will bring a clearer return on investment as well as a shorter purchasing funnel.

It is also expected that those advertising locally will be give premium pricing, because their ads will be more relevant to the searcher. Michael Boland is a senior analyst and program director of BIA/Kelsey’s Mobile Local Media practice and he had this to say about local advertising: “These premiums result from higher performance for locally targeted mobile ads when compared with non-local ads, due to higher relevance, immediacy and consumer buying intent, all of which are more prevalent in mobile than many other print and digital media.”
